Morgan at School

We had Morgan's Parent/Teacher conference last week and found out that her teacher struggles to remember she's ONLY 3 - she's a huge help in class, gets along with everyone, likes to help teach concepts to her friends, sits/pays attention well and perseveres at a task. She is doing incredibly well in math and reading - she has all her beginning/middle/end letter sounds and is ready to start READING. Her stumbling block to reading will be fluency - getting all the sounds to blend and then recognize the word. Her teacher is working with her to develop her fluency skills and by the end of the year she will be working on single syllable word stories like Mat Sat with Pat.

As you've noticed in the pictures - she is either at a table or working on a mat. This is part of the Montessori Method - working in a defined space and respecting other's work space. The process of working starts with setting up a mat, getting a tray with the particular work, working at the mat, then putting everything away, including rolling the mat back up and putting it in the mat bin.

Does she know something I don't?

Yesterday on the drive home Morgan looked over at me and said (totally unprompted), "Puck is keeping Kat company now!"

In Spite of Everything

When we left Fargo a week ago Saturday, Morgan was counting down the days to Halloween and the big party at school! I felt SO bad that she was going to miss it so I did pack her pumpkin costume thinking she could at least wear it around the house on Halloween. As it turns out - Minocqua downtown shops' host trick-or-treaters. I wanted to go to the library to get a stack of books for the week so Morgan got to say Trick or Treat there and got a lollipop and again at the grocery store. She felt totally satisfied!

Funeral Arrangements

Dear Friends,

If people are traveling for the funeral and planning on staying one or two nights we are sending folks to the Concord Inn Best Western - if you make reservations there let them know you are in town for the Hermanson funeral and there is a bereavement rate of 59$ (+ tax). The hotel is just a block from the church and walking distance from great coffee and eateries.

For those coming up Friday we are going to have an informal supper (crock-pot soups and such) here at the house, feel free to stop by, call for directions.

The funeral will be on Saturday Nov. 5 at 1PM at St. Matthais Episcopal Church 403 Chicago Ave Minocqua http://www.stmatthiasminocqua.org/

There will be a luncheon in the parish hall after the service and we will (most likely) go out for supper at Island Cafe, Ella's Cafe or Perkins after we get kicked out of the church.

Thanks for everyone who has called and asked to help, we truly appreciate it,
Kristin
