They Might Be Giants

Gymnastics Class
Last summer Morgan started gymnastics in the Parent/Tot class - she loved it. Now that she's 3 she could either have gone in a parent/tot class or the Lil' Sparks class for 3+. I wasn't sure how she would react leaving me to go to a 'stranger' what with her new dislike of all new people. We walked in, changed her clothes, she walked right in to class and didn't look back.

Morgan is 3!
physical stats:
height 37.25" (25-50%)

Development:
Most preemies with intensive therapy catch up by their 2nd or 3rd birthday. Morgan has shot the moon. In terms of infant development we look for a three your old to have a vocabulary of about 1500 words (I've stopped counting Morgan's) 75% being labeling nouns and the remaining 25% a mixture of verbs and adjectives and a few prepositions.
Morgan is is doing what we call 'generalizing' her verbs (3 1/2 to 4 yr old development)- meaning she comprehends that verbs have future, present and past tense but she's not familiar with all the irregular changes e.g. she puts the -ed ending on all verbs "Mama I liked the cake today", "I bringed down my dollies". What was fascinating is that when she said, "I bringed down my dollies" she knew that bringed was wrong so she started playing with alternatives - "I branged...", "I brunged..." I finally said,"You brought your dollies with you?", then she restated "Uh-huh, I brought my dollies with me" (We're also working on not being Midwestern and ending sentences with prepositions :) She strings adjectives and adverbs together like a pro and easily uses prepositions.
We moved from the terrible two's into the terrible three's - more temper tantrums and power struggles that unfortunately seem to revolve around food and eating much to my fear and consternation.
On the flip side of her tantrums at home - she's moved into the Pre-School room at AFC and is now playing and working with kids ranging in age from herself (the youngest) to 4 year olds getting ready for kindergarten. Miss Sheena, her new teacher, LOVES her and is amazed that we talk about tantrums. Morgan is great at school! She listens, follows directions, gets involved with activities. She plays mainly with 2 younger girls - Elle (Ellie) and Claire, but works with the older kids - Agat, Santi, Nathan and others. Sandpaper numbers were introduced last week and Miss Sheena was surprised that Morgan can already identify 1-5.

It's crazy how much snow we have! The spring flood forcast is out and 25% chance that we will pass the 2009 record of 42 feet! In the meantime Jim keeps snowblowing and Morgan keeps playing!

Morgan's hair is staying in one pony all day so at the end of the day it's stuck in the position even after the binder comes out.

Kat and Papa sent a multiply refurbished 'Pete' for the next generation. Morgan is SO excited to put her PJs in his'beak'.

Real Christmas Day or Mary Beth's Birthday or Boxing Day
The girls got to go sledding together - just down a hill in the front yard, everything else was too steep or landed in the street. They still had a good time and the short distance was really perfect for first timers.
